According to the new Motor Vehicle Law, the penalty for not having bicycle insurance has been doubled from 1,000 to 2,000 rupees and / or imprisonment for up to 3 months.

Not just for driving without bicycle insurance, but the law provides severe penalties for many traffic offenses. These include the following:

  • Compensation of Rs 5 lakhs for death and Rs 2.5 lakhs for serious injuries in the event of a car accident.
  • Penalties of Rs. 1000-Rs. 2000 to accelerate
  • Rs 5,000 fine for dangerous driving
  • 1000 rupees fine and driver’s license suspension for 3 months for driving without a helmet.

Therefore, it is a good idea to have at least third party bicycle insurance to legally ride the roads of India.
