Vehicle Number Plate Rules In India

Vehicle Number Plate Rules In India - (A)

If you are looking to buy a new vehicle or have already purchased one, you should follow this information. The Union government has changed the rules for license plates. If you don’t know the new rules, you can break them and issue a challan against them. After that, you have to pay the fine.

The Union Government Road Traffic Service has published new guidelines for the display of license plate numbers on vehicles. Here are all the rules you need to know:

  • Temporary registration plates for newly registered vehicles have a yellow plate.
  • The numbers and letters are written in red letters.
  • Vehicles found at dealerships have a red license plate.
  • The letter and vehicle number found at dealerships are written in white.
  • Vehicles whose number is written on a piece of paper and attached to the vehicle receive a challan.
  • The use of a label in a national language is not allowed.

If you use vehicles with numbers written on a piece of paper and hanging from the vehicle, the traffic police will catch you and throw a challan at you. The main objective of such a decision is to control the theft of the vehicle. You may know that most of the time criminals loot vehicles with a temporary number or use those vehicles to commit crimes. Besides that, the numbers written on paper are difficult to read and can be easily changed.

Special rules are also formulated for BS6 vehicles:

Do you have BS6 4×4? Then you need to know these rules, which will take effect on October 1, 2020. A 1 cm layer of green paint is drawn over the number of boards. This rule applies to four-wheelers that travel on gasoline, diesel, and CNG vehicles. A sticker is also applied to the green layer. However, gasoline and CNG vehicles have a blue label, while diesel vehicles have an orange label. This would help traffic officers to identify traffic violations.

According to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) guidelines, all motorized vehicles with the exception of two and three wheels must be 65mm, 10mm, and 65mm in height, thickness, and 10mm, respectively.
